SMLS has operated this specialist legal clinic in partnership with the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA) since 1995 and works closely with SECASA counsellors in providing legal advice, assistance and representation to victims/survivors of sexual assault, non-offending family members and any person affected by the assault other than the offender. A claim for compensation can be made to the Victims of Crime assistance Tribunal (VOCAT).
The SECASA clinic runs on Monday evenings and is predominantly staffed by volunteers and Advanced Professional Practice students who have demonstrated a high degree of awareness of the issues involved in cases of sexual assault.
The clinic operates on a referral basis from SECASA and specializes in Victims of Crime applications and Sentencing Act applications.
